Going to see plays at the theater is my favorite thing to do. I am always entering the lottery or getting rush tickets to Broadway shows. I am the ultimate theater nerd and it’s my favorite thing to do by myself. It has become a weekly routine of mine to go to a Sunday matinee by myself and it helps me decompress.

I enjoy being by myself surrounded by strangers watching art. It’s exhilarating. I am also often drawn to plays that have romance in them. I’m the same way with films, I love a romantic comedy moment. I love to watch people fall in love and see the chemistry between the actors play out onstage.

There is a Broadway musical called Hadestown and It is a romantic show about the love story of Euridyce and Orpheus, played by Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney. I saw it twice and the first time I saw it, Noblezada and Carney had great chemistry and really did look like they were falling in love. Soon after, they began dating in real life, so obviously I had to go back to Hadestown to see how their chemistry has progressed. When I went back, I was shocked because I actually felt the love between them. Their performances were still the same, but there was a new softness and sweetness to it.

It is beautiful to watch actors or characters fall in love with each other in a play. There is a lot of honesty and truth in theater and that comes out in the romantic onstage moments as well. It becomes a shared experience and as an audience member, you start to feel the emotions that are being expressed onstage. It can be cathartic.

When Romeo drinks the poison, you feel Juliet’s pain. When Melchior touches Wendla for the first time, you feel Wendla’s nervousness and excitement.
