Three family members were discovered dead at two Lamar County homes Thursday afternoon in an apparent double murder-suicide, Sheriff Brad White said.

The first body, identified as 50-year-old Al Ogletree, was discovered in the doorway of a home on Fredonia Church Road near Barnesville at 2 p.m. He suffered head trauma, according to the sheriff.

About half an hour later, deputies were called to another home a half-mile away, where the bodies of two other men were discovered. They were identified as 88-year-old Charles Sutton and 55-year-old Frenchie Fambro, White said. Investigators said the men lived together.

Evidence collected at the second location indicated the two crime scenes are connected, police said, and investigators are working the case as a double-murder suicide.

Authorities believe Fambro killed Ogletree and then Sutton before turning the gun on himself, the Herald-Gazette reported. He was found dead in a bed at the home from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the newspaper reported.

Fambro was reportedly involved in the fatal shooting of another man at a Barnesville gas station in 2011, but he was exonerated under Georgia’s “stand your ground” law.

The GBI assisted Lamar County deputies at both scenes, the sheriff said.
