Everything changes the very moment you lose your virginity. For some, it’s considered a rite of passage into adulthood; for others it’s all about finally having that chance to join the ranks of all those people out there who have active sex lives. Whether it’s bad or good, it’s something you’ll never forget.

For men, losing their V-card is a badge of manhood, a badge that society has created for them. They go from being a kid tangled up in wet dreams and masturbation,to finally knowing exactly what a vagina feels like and suddenly ... their life has a purpose. (That is, if we go by what Hollywood has decided it should be.) 

YourTango talked to 7 guys about what it was like to lose their virginity. Here’s what they had to tell us.

1. It didn’t go well…

“So I don't actually remember the first time I had sex. I was 30 and with my then-girlfriend. In my mid to late 20s, I had told several women that I was dating that I hadn't lost my virginity and it had scared them off. This woman was scared but willing to do it anyhow.

It didn't go so well, but it happened. It was good enough to want to do it again. And it was a relief to finally lose my virginity, especially as this was right after The 40 Year Old Virgin came out.”

2. The girl had the prettiest brown hair…

“I lost my flower in 1988 at the ripe age of 11 to a 15-year-old girl in Henderson, KY after a dance at the John F. Kennedy Center. My cousins told her I was 15 and hell, I looked it.

All my cousins were older than me, so to run with them, I had to lie about my age. The girl had the prettiest brown hair, mocha skin and tan eyes. I was super shy as a kid so my cousins played part wingman, part peer-pressure agents and goaded me to talk to this girl that they knew.

We danced and then I walked outside the center and made out with her on top of one of those green power generators. She asked me to walk her home and I did and we screwed on her back porch.

Can't say I knew what I was doing, but she did. It wasn't great sex, but whose first time ever is? Oh, and she was on her period, which freaked me out because I thought I made her bleed.”

3. I lied about my age…

“I was 17 and she was 22. I had gone to a college party in town and lied about my age like I'd been doing for years at that point. Because she hadn't seen me around before, I told her I was an exchange student from somewhere out west. I can't remember. Anywho, we're drinking and talking and she invites me home. Most of my friends had already lost their virginity so this a big deal for me to finally be one of the guys.

We start to get into it and I realize we're not humping in sync and then she tells me I f*ck like a virgin. It was humiliating. I told her I wasn't, tried to do what I'd seen in movies, came in less than three minutes, and it was over. I was the worst lay of her life, I'm sure.”

4. I lost it to a prostitute.

“It was with a prostitute in Montreal. It's taken me a long time to admit to that, but I've realized a lot of shy guys like me lose it to prostitutes. I liked it so much that I went back for more the next night. Then I ran out of money."

5. I lost it to one of two girls, I can't remember who, though...

“I lost it to one of two girls. I still can’t remember who because I was so drunk. But it was at a party at a friend’s house and since we couldn’t get anyone to buy us alcohol we were just mixing what was in his parents’ liquor cabinet. It wasn’t just my first f*ck, but my first bad hangover, too. I wanted to ask them which one I had slept with but knew that wouldn’t go over too well. It’s still a mystery.”

6. I came on her leg.

“It sucked. I came on her leg during the first attempt then during the second I came the second I was inside her. It was like that for a while even with a condom on.”
