Personal Statement

My name is Addison Newman, I am currently a junior at Amarillo High School. I started swimming in the spring of 2019 and have met great people, physically pushed myself further than I ever thought possible, and learned many life lessons. Swimming has taught me that you have to be dedicated, listen to your coaches, and have a positive attitude in order to succeed. I love supporting my teammates and strive to always be kind. While I have not been swimming as long as some of my other teammates, my drive to better myself and improve, sets me apart from others. I often practice on my own time, workout with a strength and conditioning coach and watch film, all in hopes to improve my times for myself and my team. My collegiate aspirations are to find a school that challenges me both academically and athletically.  I would like to find a coach who invests in me as a swimmer and as a person. It is also important to have a team with a positive and good-natured atmosphere while also being competitive in the sport of swimming. I would like to major in biology and later attend medical or physical therapy school.
