Aileen started her legal career as a law clerk to Judge Steve Colloton who was the judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit after which she served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Florida.
US President Donald Trump nominated her to serve as a United States District Court judge on April 29, 2020, and her nomination was sent to the United States Senate on May 21, 2020. On July 29, 2020, a hearing was held by Senate Judiciary Committee on her nomination after which her nomination was reported on September 17, 2020. Her nomination was confirmed on November 12, 2020, and she received her judicial commission on November 13, 2020.
Controversy
Recently, Cannon was involved in the hearing case of ex-President Donald Trump where Trump asked the court to appoint a special master to review the materials related to the view case from his home on August 2022 which were seized by the FBI search of Mar- a -Lago.
On August 27, Cannon signaled that she was inclined to grant the former President’s wish, and on August 29, The US Justice Department informed Cannon that the review had been completed. The material would fall under Attorney-Client Privilege.
