Deputies said the fentanyl Alexis sold led to a fatal overdose. 23-year-old Alexis Joy Sather of Marathon sold the drug to 53-year-old Amanda Roberts of Grassy Key.
Unexpectedly, Roberts was found dead at her residence on September 2nd, 2022.
Her dead body was found at around 06:30 PM. Sather got a short 47-second phone call from a pal about the poisonous side effects of her product.
Within a day, Sather made many attempts to contact Roberts by texting and calling her numerous times.
What made the case against Alexis stronger than ever was the evidence of drug use and abuse at the death scene.
The medical examiner’s office conducted an examination of the deceased and concluded that her tragic death was related to a diazepam and fentanyl overdose.
After discovering the cause of Roberts’s death, the authorities initiated an investigation into the buying and selling of drugs that killed her.
The authorities discovered that Amanda Roberts had purchased the fatal fentanyl from Alexis Joy Sather.
It was pretty easy for law enforcement agencies to locate Sather as she was already behind bars on other drug-related charges.
She was charged with Amanda Roberts’ death on March 14th, 2023. This horrid incident occurred in Monroe County.
The sheriff’s office said this is the third time in the last year that investigators have arrested a drug dealer in connection with a death resulting from their sale of narcotics.
“I hope this message is very clear; quit selling this poison in our community, it is ruining lives and killing people,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “If you sell these drugs and someone dies, we will pursue murder charges against you.”
The Sherriff’s Office Special Operations and Major Crimes Divisions, as well as the State Attorney’s office and the Drug Enforcement Administration, worked collaboratively on this case.
The accused was first detained due to parole violation on 21st September 2022 after the police found 2.9 grams of fentanyl on her when she was walking down the United States 1 on Grassy Key.
Drug abuse has resulted in the loss of many lives, young and old. There were 106,699 drug-involved overdose deaths reported in the U.S. in 2021.
As long as buying and selling of drugs continue, the deadly side effects of drug use, abuse, and overdose will be hard to control.
People who sell drugs need to have profound knowledge of the outcomes that can come from drug use. A simple mistake or a slight change in the composition of a drug can take someone’s life within minutes.
