Former Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris has reportedly found a new home for the foreseeable future.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday morning that Morris' agent, Sean Stellato, revealed Morris and the Dallas Cowboys had agreed to a two-year contract.

It seemed all along Morris wouldn't re-sign with the Redskins. He thanked them on Instagram on March 6 ahead of free agency:

On Feb. 24, Brian McNally of 106.7 The Fan noted that head coach Jay Gruden wouldn't commit to re-signing the 27-year-old rusher and acknowledged they might not come to terms. "I'm not gonna say he's a long shot," Gruden said.

Washington selected Morris in the sixth round of the 2012 draft. He's far exceeded the expected value of a late-round pick, serving as the team's top running back for the past four seasons. His best season came as a rookie, when he rushed for more than 1,600 yards and scored 13 touchdowns.

The Florida Atlantic product's impact steadily declined over the three years that followed, though. He gained just 751 yards and found the end zone only once during the 2015 campaign. His 3.7 yards per carry also represented a career low.

That said, going in a new direction is the right move for the Redskins.

They have Matt Jones and Chris Thompson, an exclusive-rights free agent, as potential replacements already on the roster. The front office could also find cheaper depth options through free agency or the draft.

Morris is certainly reliable, as Gruden suggested, but he's not a dynamic offensive threat. The money Washington will save by not giving him an extension can be used elsewhere, whether it's re-signing quarterback Kirk Cousins or upgrading the roster in other areas.
