(CNN) -- American Lucas Glover seized the lead in the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black on Friday on six-under-par after 13 holes before the second round was suspended due to darkness.

Glover was one stroke ahead of his rivals when play was finally halted because of darkness on Friday.

The 29-year-old Glover, who has only one career victory on the PGA Tour, finished one shot ahead of Ricky Barnes.

First round leader Mike Weir was joined on three-under-par by Sweden's Peter Hanson (11 holes) and Todd Hamilton (10 holes), the official U.S. Open Web site reported.

It was bonus time for those players who were able to complete their delayed first rounds on Friday and then continue with their second, with the rain slowing down the greens and making play much easier than is normal at Bethpage Black.

Tiger Woods, who is 10 shots off the lead and has yet to start his second round, was envious of Glover and the other leaders.

"You would say, 'yes,' automatically, quickly," said Woods when asked if he was at a disadvantage since he began the first round on Thursday. "I think the guys who are playing today and tomorrow (Saturday) morning are going to get more mud balls," the world number one told PGA.com.

"It's only going to get worse, unless we get more rain," added Woods, referring to the distance between he and the leaders.

Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who also finished his first round on Thursday to sit on a one-under par 69, echoed Woods' thoughts.

"I'd like to get straight out there right now," said the Ulsterman. "The weather's perfect out there (Friday). The golf course is in decent shape," he told PGA.com

The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. (ET) on Saturday.
