“Angel Baby” by Troye Sivan

There’s a lot going on in Troye Sivan’s “Angel Baby”. For starters, let’s just get out of the way that Troye, himself being gay, is accordingly addressing a fellow male romantic interest. And as far as love songs go, well, at the end of the day the primary sentiment is always one of appreciation for being in a relationship with the addressee. But in this case, the vocalist uses some really choice language in getting that point across.
');var c=function(){cf.showAsyncAd(opts)};if(typeof window.cf !== 'undefined')c();else{cf_async=!0;var r=document.createElement("script"),s=document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0];r.async=!0;r.src="//";r.readyState?r.onreadystatechange=function(){if("loaded"==r.readyState||"complete"==r.readyState)r.onreadystatechange=null,c()}:r.onload=c;s.parentNode.insertBefore(r,s)}; })();For instance, we are once again dealing with a song that relies heavily on religious, what some would even classify as Biblical, references. The narrative is premised on the idea of the vocalist having been in some type of less-than-ideal state (i.e. depressed) before making acquaintance with the addressee who, as love stories sometimes go, appeared out of nowhere into his life.
But interestingly, Troye refers to this individual as having to “give up heaven so (they) could be together”. Well, just based on the fact that we’re dealing with a homosexual relationship in the first, that phrase can be interpreted in a religious sort of way.
But even beyond that there are stories in the Bible of beings, who are often considered to have been angels themselves (i.e. the title of this song), who did in fact vacate heaven to chill on Earth in the name of romance.
So as we have been compelled to note quite frequently as of late, religious references like these are such that, depending on a listener’s understanding of them, can be taken a number of different ways.
But so it is with the music industry these days. And we cannot allow ourselves to venture into the realm of possibility while neglecting what’s most forthrightly being presented in our faces.
Troye talks about “Angel Baby”
According to Sivan’s own explanation of this track, the goal was to create a “love struck, mega pop, gay power ballad”. So at the end of the day we’ll just take it like that, as “Angel Baby” being a gay love song.
');var c=function(){cf.showAsyncAd(opts)};if(typeof window.cf !== 'undefined')c();else{cf_async=!0;var r=document.createElement("script"),s=document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0];r.async=!0;r.src="//";r.readyState?r.onreadystatechange=function(){if("loaded"==r.readyState||"complete"==r.readyState)r.onreadystatechange=null,c()}:r.onload=c;s.parentNode.insertBefore(r,s)}; })();And it is one of those in which the singer is able to celebrate that his life is no longer the “hell” it used to be. He is now a happy person having experienced newfound joy via his romance with the addressee.
When was “Angel Baby” released?
This track came out on 9 September 2021 as perhaps the lead single for a concurrently-unnamed future Troye Sivan album.
Troye Sivan
Troye is an Australian singer who also possesses South African citizenship. Being born in 1996 he has been in the game pretty much his whole life, i.e. since the mid-aughts. And since then he’s not only been singing but acting professionally.
However, his heart is obviously more into music than acting, as that’s where the bulk of Sivan’s focus has been. Accordingly Troye has a moderately-lengthy discography, complete with two studio albums, a remix album, a video album and five EPs up until this point.
He has experienced musical success not only in Australia and the UK but also, perhaps most notably given his country of origin, the US. Here, both of his studio albums and two of his EPs have thus far made it onto the top 10 of the Billboard 200.
And his most-successful song to date has been 2015’s Youth, i.e. the lead single from Sivan’s debut LP, Blue Neighbourhood.
Did Troye write “Angel Baby”?
Yes. Jason Evigan, a musician from L.A., produced and co-wrote “Angel Baby”. And the other writers, besides Troye, are:
