Anne Hathaway has become one of the most beloved and respected figures in Hollywood. Her impressive work in front of the cameras and her iconic roles have helped her to build a successful and long career in the seventh art, winning the hearts of critics and viewers alike.

However, her beginnings in the industry were not so comfortable, something she herself has spoken about on more than one occasion.

Currently, Hathaway is fully immersed in the promotion of her new film, 'The Idea of You', attending several interviews where she has not only talked about her most recent production.

One of her most recent interviews was with V Magazine, where she was asked about the chemistry with her partner in the movie, Nicholas Galitzine.

And it was at that moment that the actress took the opportunity to confess an unpleasant episode she lived through when she was taking her first steps in the industry.

It was during an audition at the beginning of the century, a time when it was relatively common for actresses to have to do the so-called 'chemistry tests'.

They had to make out with the candidates for the role of a man when a production starred a couple to see if their chemistry transmitted to the camera.

However, Hathaway believes that such tests were the "worst way to do it", going on to recount a case of which she has very bad memories, considering it "disgusting".

Hathaway honest about bad experience

Hathaway wanted to be honest about her bad experience, recounting what she had been told before auditioning.

"They told me 'today ten guys are coming and you have the part. aren't you excited to make out with all of them?" recalled the actress, who even questioned her emotions at the time.

She added: "And I thought 'Is something wrong with me?', because I wasn't excited. I thought it sounded gross."

The actress did not want to reveal more information about the ordeal, keeping the name of the film and the year in which it happened to herself.

Although, she did want to make it clear that she did not believe it was something done with bad intentions, but that it was a different era in which such tests were not looked down upon like they are today.

"I was very young and was terribly aware of how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled as difficult, so I pretended to be excited and went ahead," she said.

"It was not a power game, no one was trying to be horrible to me or hurt me. It was just a very different time and we've learned."

On the other hand, the actress also wanted to emphasize that things are very different now, something that can be seen in 'The Idea of You', her next film, in which she has also performed the duties of producer.

In fact, in this film, the 'chemistry test' was based on music, explaining: "We asked each actor to choose a song that they thought their character would like and then we did a little improvisation.

"I was sitting in a chair, as if we had just come from a dinner or a walk, we would press play, and we would start dancing together."
