Emily Baldwin Our Gift to God
Arthur Verdell Gordon Jr. 92, peacefully slipped away on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital in Norfolk, VA
God’s Gift to Us
Arthur was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on July 13, 1930 to the late Arthur Verdell Gordon, Sr. and the late Juanita C. Rollins.
The Gift of Wisdom
He was educated in the Bluefield, West Virginia Public School system. He also attended Bluefield College.
The Gift of Labor
Arthur fulfilled a higher call of duty by serving in the United States Army. He courageously served during the Korean War as a Paratrooper and received a letter of commendation from his commanding officer for his outstanding performance. Arthur was also a devoted employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad as a Railroad Car Retarder Operator for over 30 years.
The Gift of Dedication
Arthur faithfully loved and served his family. His favorite times were spent with family but especially his grandchildren. He was an avid bowler and participated in a local bowling league for several years. Arthur was a jack of all trades. In our eyes, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He was an inventor of many items that made life easier for himself and his family, including adding extensions to his daughter Jenell’s wheelchair and more.
The Gift of Love
He was predeceased by his sister Audrey Saunders.
Arthur leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Flossie Lucille Patillo Gordon; three daughters Sandra G. Parson (Leonard), Lynne V.G. Dowdy (Herman-deceased), Jenell Y. Gordon; one brother, Donald C. Gordon (Iris); four grandchildren Kyleah P. Lee (Eric), Kyle E. Parson, Alysse L. Dowdy, Selea M. Dowdy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends
