Benjamin Irvin's Men's Golf Recruiting Profile
Sarah Rodriguez Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Ben Irvin. I started playing golf at the end of my freshman year in high school, due to concussions that ended my football career. I have always had an interest in golf, and when the concussions knocked me out of football, I decided to play golf as my high school varsity sport. It helped in making that decision as my father is an accomplished PGA Teaching Professional. He is a 2-time PGA "Teacher of the Year" for the southern Ohio section, and taught with Jim Flick for twelve years (Jack Nicklaus' swing coach). I worked all winter, spring and summer, almost everyday, and made varsity for my high school team. I alternated between five and six man in my first season of golf, and averaged about a 43 (with a low of 33 in a match). This past winter, spring and summer (2014-2015), I worked everyday for hours on end. I ended up winning my teams tryout to meet my goal of becoming number one man. My USGA handicap index is a 1.3. I aspire to be a very good golfer, not only in college, but after college as well. I have a 3.79 GPA, and work very hard to keep my grades up, while still improving my golf game. The reason I would make an excellent addition to any golf team is because I am a very hard working individual, and will not only push myself, but push my teammates to get better so we improve as a team. I stand out, not only for my work ethic on and off the course, but because education is very important to me and my goals. I work hard at everything I do. I am a likeable, funny, hardworking, and a smart individual. I like to help others and also love to be helped. I would be a great addition to any college team, and I would consider it a privilege and honor to play college golf.
