Joel Selwood was raised in a family of six, consisting of his parents and siblings.

The Australian rules footballer was born to parents Bryce Selwood and Maree Selwood in Bendigo, Victoria. He grew up alongside three brothers, namely Troy Selwood, Adam Selwood, and Scott Selwood, in an athletic family. His mother is a former tennis player and a track runner.

His elder brothers Adam and Troy are twins who were born on May 1, 1984. Likewise, his younger brother Scott is currently 32 years old, two years younger than the Geelong FC player.

Further, all of Joel's brothers have pursued careers in AFL. But Selwood is the only one who is still playing as his three siblings have already retired from the sport, 

Additionally, Joel, who is 34 years old, was born on May 26, 1988. He is nearly four years older than his wife, who is currently 30. Brit's official birthday is not disclosed yet.
