DeVille founded the bands Needle Park and Samantha 7 and has appeared on reality and scripted drama television series. In 1991, he was involved in a fist fight with Poison’s lead singer Bret Michaels backstage at the MTV Awards after DeVille played the wrong song during the performance.

In the mid-80s, C.C. DeVille auditioned to become a member of glam metal band Poison, ultimately beating out future Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash. The band found success with their debut album, “Look What the Cat Dragged In,” which included popular singles such as “Talk Dirty to Me” and “I Want Action.” Their second album, “Open Up and Say… Ahh!” featured the band’s only number-one single, “Every Rose Has its Thorn.” Poison continued their success with their third album, “Flesh & Blood,” which included top-10 hits “Unskinny Bop” and “Something to Believe In.” However, tensions between band members, particularly DeVille and lead singer Bret Michaels, led to a fight at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1991.
