A gloomy fall afternoon in San Francisco inspired the idea for the company, which debuted last year. While at home recovering from a broken arm, web designer and part-time knitter Lexi Ehrman started making a cozy scarf for her kitty companion, Squirrel. “Not only did he look handsome, but he was totally into it! My fiancé and I both stood there, shocked," Ehrman tells InStyle.com. "You haven’t seen a cat strut until you’ve seen Squirrel in his CatScarf.”

Currently based in Vernon, N.J., Ehrman donates a portion of proceeds from each scarf to help animals in need. Hundreds of scarves have been sold to date, and contributions have gone to local animal shelters and organizations, including the Feline Rescue of Northern Nevada (FRoNN) and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
