Flanagan, who had previously served as Assistant Principal at Mercer Elementary and Principal at Ayer Elementary, was a respected leader who positively impacted students and staff.

The city of Madeira announced the news on social media, expressing their sadness and highlighting Flanagan’s leadership within the community. 

Forest Hills Superintendent Larry R. Hook also sent a letter to families, informing them of Flanagan’s passing and emphasizing his contributions to the district.

The Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine, has ordered all public Madeira city buildings to lower their flags to half-staff in honor of Flanagan. 

This gesture is a testament to Flanagan’s positive influence on the community and his legacy as an educator.

The cause of Flanagan’s death has not been disclosed, leaving many to mourn and speculate about what could have happened.

Flanagan’s passing has left a void in the community, as he was known for his commitment to education and his dedication to improving the lives of students.

Flags at all public buildings in Madeira City will be flown at half-staff in honor of the late principal of Madeira Elementary School, Chris Flanagan, as per the order of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. 

Madeira City Schools remained closed on Tuesday after Flanagan’s unexpected passing on Monday night, with the closure being termed as a non-school safety emergency. 

The day off was meant to allow students, staff, and families to process the loss. 

Before joining Madeira, Flanagan served as the principal of Ayer Elementary and as an assistant principal at Mercer Elementary in the Forest Hills School District. 

Forest Hills Superintendent Larry Hook said in a statement that Flanagan positively impacted many students and staff during his tenure with the district.

Flanagan, who spent half of his 50 years serving local students, was a beloved figure in the community. 

He was known for his dedication to his students, as seen in his 2013 rooftop campout to celebrate his students raising $31,000 for the school and his quick response to a plane crash near his school in 2019. 

Flanagan joined Finneytown Local School District as a teacher in 1998 and later became an assistant principal at Forest Hills Local School District. 

In 2013, he spent a night on the roof of Ayer Elementary to celebrate his students’ fundraising efforts. 

He began his career teaching in the Finneytown Local School District in 1998. He later served as an assistant principal in the Forest Hills Local School District before becoming principal of Ayer Elementary. 

He has been serving as principal of Madeira Elementary since 2016.

The news of his passing has left the staff at Ayer Elementary in shock, according to Jonathan Kollmann, the pastor at Anderson Hills Church. 

He lived in Madeira with his wife Danielle, and their four children.
