The Golden State Warriors are reportedly still exploring trade options for veteran point guard Chris Paul amid the team's contract decision, per NBA insider Marc Stein.

"The Warriors, league sources say, have continued to explore their trade options with Paul's trade-friendly contract in conjunction with Wednesday's draft as well as the prospect of pushing the Friday deadline into July if Paul is amenable to that amendment (as covered here previously)," Stein wrote.

Golden State has until Friday to decide if it wants to exercise Paul's $30 million team option for the 2024-25 season.

Paul averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game, primarily coming off the bench in his 19th NBA season.

While his on-court contributions aren't what they used to be, his leadership ability is, and that's enough for head coach Steve Kerr to want to keep him around.

"Chris has been fantastic, not only on the court but the leadership. … He is one of our best players. … I love coaching Chris (Paul). I really hope we bring him back next year," Kerr said, per Heavy Sports' Alder Almo.

But Kerr's wish of retaining Paul might not come true as Golden State looks for a potential trade this week. The Warriors are looking to re-open their championship window after missing the playoffs entirely this season, and upgrading their backup point guard would likely help that goal.

For Paul, the aging former star is still seeking his first championship, and he'll likely hope to land with a Finals contender if his time in Golden State is over—whether that be through a trade or free agency.
