For the first time, Moneybagg Yo has spoken publicly about the tragic loss of his mother, revealing that the loss had a profound impact on him and his family.

In an interview with Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast, the Memphis rapper discussed the tragedy. 

By admitting that he “instantly broke down” upon hearing that Kennedy Lynette (a.k.a. Chyna Santana) had died.

Bagg has eight children from four different women. He has stated that he and his girlfriend now live together and have full custody of their three children.

She got brutally killed. Someone she was with killed her, he claimed. “It shook me up. I was in Atlanta, finishing some recording work on the tape. 

When I got the call, that was about as in-depth as I would get. I wept immediately; I couldn’t take it in.

More than anything, Media person was furious with her, asking, “How did you let this happen?

 He said” I can’t believe you let your kids go; my daughter called me from the airport to say, “I told my mama not to go.”

He elaborated, “This is when I started crying.” Damn, I thought, what am I going to say? I had to vent my frustrations, sob story.”

To which he said, “It happened?” That is what she stated.

It got planned that her mother would spend the night with her, but she never returned. What happened? she said incredulously. 

There was no way for me to convey that to [her]. When I heard that, I said, “My mama finna come get y’all.” That’s about all I can say…It’s tough to discuss right now, but I’m a guy of steel. I have things under control. I’m making it through.

In May 2015, a friend of the mother of three posted the devastating news that Santana had died.

Despite the pain of loss, Moneybagg Yo has delayed the release of his new album, Hard To Love: Heartless Edition, until June 2 (he claimed he didn’t want to compete with Taylor Swift’s album release on May 26).
