Clarke Cooper's Men's Basketball Recruiting Profile
Andrew Mccoy Personal Statement
As a student athlete at Westside High School, I was blessed with the opportunity to start on Junior Varsity as a Freshman and Varsity as a Sophomore and Junior. In Westside High School’s history, there has only been one other player to achieve this athletic milestone due to Westside’s rule of “Freshman, only plays Freshman basketball”. Given these opportunities have allowed me to lead the team to a historical undefeated District Championship in the 2013-2014 season.
My collegiate basketball career began 2016-2017 at NCAA Division I - University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, then transferred to New Mexico Military Institute. I will graduate with an Associate’s degree in Spring 2018 from Blinn College and eligible to play Division I basketball immediately. I have two years of eligibility remaining and a valued recruit that could impact a team for the better. I am dedicated to workouts and received years of personal skills training for basketball development by one of the top trainers at Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, CA and Houston, TX.
Also, I’m a good candidate for Division 1 college team because of the insight that I gained from my high school, AAU, D1, JUCO experiences that have increased my IQ and good work ethics on the court. What makes me standout athletically over the other players, is when it’s time to play defense, I’m a beast because I love to shut my opponents down and enjoy stealing the ball. I utilize court speed to capitalize on defense and offense strategies to place my team in good scoring positions. My “Explosive Speed” on Offense allow me to run the point and make it difficult for the Defense to keep up with me. Also, my quickness enables me to run fast breaks, set up plays or feed the ball to my teammates who fill the lane. The performance of my court speed is more than just sprinting. I have successfully performed speed from different positions and it is my offensive and defensive weapon. Also, I am a great ball handler with little or no turnovers and create fouls, which will send me to the Free Throw Line.
When it comes to having good character I am very coachable. I listen and respect coaches’ instructions on and off the court. I have been raised in a home environment where respect is mandatory and attending church along with participating in activities are required. These two are great benefits that have shaped and built my character. I have the support of my family that encourages me and I trust in God. I recognize that it is important, not just becoming the best player on the team, but also being a good teammate. I keep a positive attitude, encourage my teammates, keep them involved on the court and have earned their trust.
I absolutely love the game of basketball and take it to heart. It’s not just about me, it’s about the team doing well. Being a Point Guard means being in a position as a leader, which requires discipline. I must learn the strengths and weaknesses of all of my teammates on and off the court. As a collegiate player, the challenges are greater and due to my work ethic and discipline at home with my parents and academics, I’m ready for the challenge.
