“COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES: WRESTLING Since 1923, Mines Wrestling has had a decorated history, with 7 national champions, 5 national top-10 team finishes, and over 50 All-Americans. The program has also claimed 5 NCAA All-Academic Team Titles with the highest GPA among all DII wrestling programs. In 2019 and 2020, Mines won back-to-back RMAC Championships. Colorado School of Mines notched its best finish ever in the 2018 Learfield Directors' Cup standings, placing sixth in the ranking of athletic department performance in NCAA Division II. The Athletic Department sponsors 18 intercollegiate programs. THE CURRENT TEAM AND FACILITIES Colorado School of Mines wrestlers are well known throughout the country boasting numerous high school state finalists on the roster from all over the United States. They are respected not only because of their ability on the mat, but also their commitment to academic excellence and character. In 2017 our wrestling facility was dedicated in honor of longtime Mines coach and National Wrestling Hall of Fame member Jack Hancock. The Jack Hancock Wrestling Center features 3,600 square feet of mat space, a balcony over looking the wrestling room, and a private entrance to the newly renovated Mines Wrestling locker room. The locker room area includes 31 personalized lockers, hot/cold tubs, and a private study/lounge area; the project was completed prior to the 2018-19 wrestling season. HEAD COACH: Austin DeVoe Austin DeVoe has been the Head Wrestling Coach at Colorado School of Mines since 2014. Prior to his time at Mines, DeVoe served as Assistant Wrestling Coach at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, coaching 10 student-athletes to the NCAA Division I National Tournament. A 2006 graduate from the University of Missouri DeVoe was an NCAA Division I national qualifier at 125 lbs, earning Big XII Academic All-American honors and was a four-year letter winner. As a freestyle wrestler, DeVoe was a four-time Jr. National All-American, two-time University Nationals All-American, Fila Jr. World Team Trials Finalist and University National Champion. DeVoe also served as a Freestyle National Team Coach from 2004-10, and currently serves as the President of the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Coaches Association. 2019 and 2020 RMAC and NCAA Region VI Coach of the Year. Some of our most recent All-Americans have been prospects that began wrestling as late as 7/8th grade. We attract student-athletes who choose Mines over NCAA D-I schools because of the environment, culture, and academics.
