The telecommunications tower, which stretches more than 2,000 feet into the sky, has reportedly experienced snow and ice falling to the ground from the upper reaches of the structure.

Tobu Railway Company, operators of the new tower, outlined a number of technologies which they have implemented in order to allay concerns relating to falling snow or ice, according to media reports.

As many as 3,000 small electric heaters have reportedly been embedded into special glass windows to melt the colder elements, according to Fuji TV.

The operators have also installed 20 CCTV cameras in order to monitor weather conditions and manage any potential build-up of snow or ice on the upper levels of the structure.

Tokyo Sky Tree, which will formally open next May, is the latest addition on the capital's skyline and is due to become the nation's main digital broadcasting tower.

It is part of a major new commercial development, including 300 shops, restaurants and offices alongside plazas filled with Japanese cherry trees and pines.

Tokyo's new tower, which will open two observation decks to the public from next May, was recently certified by the Guinness World Records as the world's tallest free-standing television tower, overtaking the Canton Tower in Guangzhou, China, which is 1,968ft high.
