Cowboys' Dak Prescott 'Teaching' Trey Lance 'the Ropes' Entering 2024 NFL Season | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Sophia Dalton Dak Prescott is making life a little easier for Dallas Cowboys teammate Trey Lance as the backup quarterback absorbs his first full offseason with the franchise.
Cowboys quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien told reporters that Prescott has "been great" with Lance.
"He goes out of his way, on a play maybe that he has a long history with to maybe teach (Lance) some of the nuances within," Tolzien said. "Beyond that, just teaching him the ropes, things that he's used in the past (that have helped) him, both fundamentally and approach-wise. I'm really lucky. I have a really good quarterback room. The guys help each other out. It's really natural. It makes my job easy."
Until Prescott signs a new contract, the possibility remains that Dallas will need to sketch out a succession plan. The three-time Pro Bowler is due to be a free agent in 2025, and there has reportedly been little headway toward an extension.

The Cowboys clearly saw something in Lance to justify acquiring him in the first place. In eight appearances with the San Francisco 49ers, he threw for 797 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions while running for 235 yards and one score.
The 2021 first-round pick will be 25 by the time the 2025 campaign rolls around, which is the same age Aaron Rodgers was when he took the Green Bay Packers' starting job. The same is true for his replacement in Green Bay, Jordan Love. Kirk Cousins was 26 when he supplanted Robert Griffin III as the Washington Commanders' starter.
It's too early to throw in the towel on Lance.
In the event Prescott is wearing a different uniform once his contract expires, the tutelage he's providing to Lance now could be very beneficial to Dallas.
