Cowboys' Dak Prescott Replaced by Bucs' Baker Mayfield for 2024 NFL Pro Bowl Games | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Daniel Foster Three members of the Dallas Cowboys have been added to the roster for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, but Dak Prescott won't be joining them.
The 30-year-old will be replaced by Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Michael Gehlken @GehlkenNFLBuccaneers website reported Baker Mayfield replaced Dak Prescott in Pro Bowl Games because Prescott is "unable to participate due to injury." This is not accurate, two people familiar with the situation said. Reason is personal, not medical.
Per the Cowboys' public relations staff, DeMarcus Lawrence and Jake Ferguson will participate as San Francisco 49ers stars Nick Bosa and George Kittle are preparing for Super Bowl 58.
Tyler Smith will be replacing teammate Zack Martin, who is not participating due to personal reasons.
Prescott was one of three NFC quarterbacks, along with Brock Purdy and Matthew Stafford, voted to the Pro Bowl Games. Mayfield was one of four alternates at the position. Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks are the others.
Per Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, Martin will miss the Pro Bowl due to the birth of his child being expected soon.
Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram noted Prescott decided to opt out of the Pro Bowl and there's nothing physically wrong with the star quarterback.
Even with Prescott electing not to play, the additions of Ferguson and Lawrence to the squad give the Cowboys a total of eight Pro Bowlers. Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, Da'Ron Bland, Brandon Aubrey and Bryan Anger were named to the team when rosters were originally announced.
The only team with more Pro Bowl selections was the 49ers, who had nine players named to the squad.
Smith is a first-time Pro Bowler in just his second season. The 22-year-old was named to the All-Pro second team at left guard after making 14 starts during the regular season.
Ferguson, who is also in his second year, became Prescott's No. 2 target behind Lamb. He had 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games. The Wisconsin product is the first Cowboys tight end named to the Pro Bowl since Jason Witten in 2017.
This will be the second straight Pro Bowl appearance and fourth overall for Lawrence in his 10-year career. He had 10 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits and four sacks in 17 starts.
Prescott was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2018. He led the NFL with 410 completions and 36 touchdown passes in the regular season.
The Cowboys' season came to an end with a 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Game.
