Crystal Palace Women manager Dean Davenport and members of staff leave club
Carter Sullivan Crystal Palace Women’s manager Dean Davenport and other members of his staff have left the club.
Davenport, along with two other members of staff, was suspended in March after the club launched an internal investigation into their conduct and it is unclear whether his departure and the investigation are linked.
Davenport declined to comment.
Palace Women are actively recruiting for a new head coach and assistant.
Palace said on their website: “Crystal Palace Women has parted company with First Team Manager Dean Davenport.
“Other members of Dean’s coaching staff have also left the club today, by mutual consent.
“Dean began supporting the women’s team in 2013 and was integral to the success of Crystal Palace Ladies Football Club CIC.
“Crystal Palace Women will announce a permanent replacement ahead of the new season.”
Coach Mike Lowne has taken charge of the team since the staff were suspended, winning five of their final nine matches as they finished fifth in the Championship table.
Davenport’s relationship with Palace stretches back over 19 years, with 10 of those as manager.
Last week Palace announced the appointment of Grace Williams as the club’s new Head of Women’s Football.
They have played in the second tier since being awarded a licence for the rebranded Women’s Championship in 2018.
The club signed 15 new players in the summer and attracted a record crowd for a Palace Women’s match when they hosted Southampton at Selhurst Park in September.
When contacted by The Athletic for comment, Palace pointed to the statement they released confirming Davenport’s departure, along with his coaching staff’s.
