Before stepping onto the mound for the biggest game of his career, Brandon Pfaadt found solace in his roots. The rookie pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks was set to start Game 7 of the National League Championship Series, a high-pressure situation that would make anyone nervous.

To calm his racing heart, Pfaadt turned to his faith and found comfort in reading the Bible in the dugout just before the game began.

Pfaadt, a product of Trinity High School and Bellarmine University, both Catholic institutions in Louisville, Kentucky, has always had a strong connection to his faith. Despite a less than stellar regular season performance with a 5.72 ERA, Pfaadt has exceeded expectations in the postseason. He had a shaky start in the Wild Card Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing three earned runs in just 2.2 innings.

However, he quickly turned things around in his next two starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies, not allowing a single run in 10.0 innings. With an impressive 2.13 ERA in his three postseason starts, Pfaadt has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the Diamondbacks.

He was solid and helped his team on Game 7

The Diamondbacks' path to Game 7 has been a rollercoaster ride. After losing the first two games of the series at Citizens Bank Park, they rallied back to win two straight at their home ballpark, Chase Field. The Phillies managed to win Game 5, but Arizona fought off elimination in Game 6 to force the decisive Game 7.

The seventh game was finally won by Arizona 4-2, with a solid performance by Pfaadt, who pitched four innings, gave up four hits and two runs accepted for a 1.86 ERA.

The Diamondbacks beat the Phillies 4-2 and return to the World Series for the first time since 2001, when in their first Fall Classic they beat the New York Yankees in seven games.
