BIOGRAPHY OF DIAMOND PLATNUMZ.

Diamond Platnumz is a Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist and dancer. He was born on October 2, 1989 as Nasibu Abdul Juma. He had several hit songs including ‘Number One’ in which he featured Nigerian artist Davido.

Diamond has won numerous awards at Channel O and the HiPipo Music Awards. He performed at the Big Brother Africa 7 eviction show in May 2012. Diamond is considered influential among his fans and is said to be East and Central Africa’s most beloved and decorated entertainer at the moment.

He is considered the top-selling Tanzanian ringtone artist by mobile phone companies in 2013, as well as among the highest-earning artists in the music industry in the African Great Lakes region.

DIAMOND PLATNUMZ EDUCATION BACKGROUND

In 1995 he joined Chakula Bora Kindergarten and in 1996 he joined Tandale Magharibi Primary School and completed his primary education in 2002. In 2003 he started secondary school and graduated in 2006 .

MUSICAL CAREER DIAMOND PLATNUMZ

Nasib Juma spent his formative years impersonating local and international artists and singing their songs on different occasions. His mother bought for his albums from different artists and helped him write the lyrics for some songs so that he could easily sing them.

The singer mother took him to different talent shows hoping he would get a chance to sing; it was against some family members as they were of the opinion that music was a waste of time and can never be a career, instead they wanted her to encourage her to focus on the education.

Doing it as an artist was not easy. While the kwangwaru hitmaker was trying to raise funds for a studio session in 2007, he was forced to engage in casual jobs like selling second-hand clothes, gas station attendants, freelancer in as a photographer, and any other work in which there was some money to be made. There was a time when he was involved in illegal gambling; all for the money to record his first single in the studio.

It was not easy for him to save enough money for a studio session and to support his family with the money he earned. He was forced to secretly sell his mother’s gold ring and use the money to pay for his session. As it was his first time in the studio, the song was not an immediate hit but it opened doors for him and marked the start of his journey as a Bongo Flava music artist.

Through this song, Diamond met Chizo Mapene who volunteered to be his manager overseeing all of his musical works. The deal was for them to make an album, but unfortunately money became an issue and their working relationship ended without releasing that album.

Dreams were shattered and royalty was tested; relationships ended and friends became strangers. Diamond Platnumz couldn’t find a studio to sign him, his girlfriend left him saying she couldn’t be with someone who couldn’t support him; a dreamer who thinks he will be one of the great Tanzanian musicians to live the life of a star.

Diamond Platnumz met Papaa Misifa in 2009 who agreed to support him financially on his first single “Nenda Kamwambie”. It was the song that opened doors for him in the music industry.
