The East Lansing Police Department provided an initial statement to Ethan Sherwood Strauss of ESPN.com regarding the arrest:

We are confirming that Draymond Green was arrested for assault in our downtown business district early Sunday morning at around 2:30AM. The victim was a male. It was basically an altercation between two guys. There's no injuries. He was released with a 200 dollar bond on Sunday. And he's got 10 days to get arraigned and then prosecution will continue from there.

Sernoffsky, citing a source "close to the Draymond investigation," reported Green "slapped [a] taunting fan at a nightclub," though police later confirmed to ESPN.com that the incident was at a restaurant. Green also had a "blood-alcohol level of 0.10," and he wasn't released until he was sober, as Ed White of the Associated Press reported July 13.

The alleged victim was revealed to be current Michigan State football player Jermaine Edmondson, as ESPN.com's Dan Murphy relayed July 13. He added Green pleaded not guilty.

"My client is a student-athlete who was punched and assaulted by Mr. Green in an unprovoked, unnecessary attack," Edmondson's attorney Corey Minor Smith said afterward, according to TMZ. "His life has been forever altered by the events of that weekend."

Green was scheduled for arraignment July 20, per SportsCenter's Twitter account, but Green's attorney waived his client's right to an arraignment, per Diamond Leung of Bay Area News Group. Leung reported Green's "pretrial conference has been expedited and is scheduled for July 21."

On Thursday, Green's attorney, James Heos, said the matter will likely be resolved following the Olympics but before the NBA season, per Christopher Haxel of the Lansing State Journal. Heos also indicated a plea agreement is still a possibility. According to Haxel, Heos requested a pretrial conference be moved to Thursday since Green will be leaving for Rio de Janeiro to take part in the Olympics and communication will be difficult.

"Publicity surrounding the arrest may affect his performance in the games," Heos said in court documents, per Haxel.

If convicted, Green faces a maximum of 93 days in jail and a $500 fine, per ESPN.com.

TMZ provided video of police escorting Green away in handcuffs July 11:

"I think when things happen, I think you meet them head-on," Green said July 12, via Jimmy Durkin of the Mercury News. "My legal team is handling it. It will be resolved really quickly. As a public figure, I just can't put myself in certain situations. It's something that I'll learn from and just move on."

Jerry West spoke on Murph & Mac on KNBR 680 (h/t Brian Murphy) about Green, saying it was "very disappointing," adding that Green "has a greater responsibility, not just to the team, but to himself."

"If he's not my [favorite] player, I don't know who is...but he needs to not put himself in those situations," West added, per Murphy.

Green is one of 12 players expected to represent the United States in August's Olympics in Rio. The Warriors star averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game last season, earning second-team All-NBA honors and his first All-Star selection.

Green attended Michigan State University in East Lansing for four years.
