Eagles Rumors: Devin White Signs 1-Year Contract Worth Up to $7.5M After Bucs Stint | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Sophia Dalton After spending the first five years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, linebacker Devin White has found a new home.
Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, White has agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $7.5 million with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
ESPN's Jenna Laine reported last year that White had requested to be traded from Tampa Bay because he was "unhappy in his current situation." A source told Laine that his "frustrations stem from negotiations over a new contract."
Just two days later, Bucs general manager Jason Licht said the team has "no intention" of trading White despite his request. In August, White called his trade request "a little selfish" and said he would focus on the 2023 season. He earned $11.7 million while playing on the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.
In 14 games in 2023, White continued performing at a high level and ranked third on the Bucs with 83 total tackles while adding 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, six passes defended and two interceptions.
The 26-year-old had been one of the leaders of the Bucs defense since he entered the NFL. He was named second-team All-Pro in 2020 and made his first Pro Bowl in 2021. He helped lead Tampa Bay to victory in Super Bowl LV, recording 12 tackles and the game-sealing interception in the fourth quarter off a pass from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
In 2022, the LSU product started all 17 games for the second year in a row and recorded 124 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. It was his third straight season recording over 100 tackles.
The Eagles are getting a stout defender to plug into the middle of a unit that ranked 26th last year after allowing 356.1 yards per game. White should have no problems continuing to perform at a high level in Philadelphia's defense.
