England beat Senegal 3-0, advance to face France in quarter-finals: World Cup 2022 result
Daniel Santos Gareth Southgate was asked after the match what pleased him most about the result. He said: "The ruthlessness of our execution.
"But the way the team worked off the ball, and without the ball... in the end we were a bit sticky with the ball in the first 25-30 minutes. Senegal had a lot of energy, they pressed well, their shape was good and our best opportunities came from winning the ball from them.
"I thought Jude and Hendo in particular were outstanding in that aspect of the game. They're both forward running, forward-thinking midfield players. Hendo doesn't get many for us, but he has been outstanding. He is such a leader, he knits the team together around the camp, he's brilliant and his performances have been top drawer for us."
On Kane getting his first goal of the tournament: "Any forward wants to be off the mark. For him, it stops all the questions. I thought he started to find a bit more space in the second half and his link play was better as well. Important for him and for us."
On Bellingham's impact: "We've got some super young players and we think it's been right to given them their head and their opportunity. Jude, Phil, Bukayo tonight in particular. They're heading in a really good direction and these games are brilliant life experience for them. The progress they're making is phenomenal.
"The team have made a very complicated game tonight look straightforward. That wasn't the case. But the mentality and the attitude, we've made it look that way."
On their quarter-final matchup against France: "Yes, they're an outstanding team with a phenomenal tournament record and some outstanding individuals. So that's a game where we're going to have to find our highest possible level."
