Amber Heard is facing even more legal trouble with word the FBI is assisting the Australian government as it continues its investigation of perjury allegations.

The 36-year-old is being investigated by Australia's Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment (DAWE) over whether she lied under oath after bringing her pet dogs into the country in May 2015.

Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp travelled to Australia in March 2015, with the actress bringing their two Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo, along for the trip.

The then couple got into an argument, which resulted in Depp's finger being severed, however Heard's issues stem from the fact she checked "no" on her immigration card about importing anything into the country that had to be declared.

Due to Australia's strict quarantine laws, foreign dogs must be quarantined for 10 days when first brought to the country.

As a result, officials asked Heard to have the dogs sent away or be euthanized. Depp ultimately flew back to the United States with them, while Heard was charged with illegally importing them to Australia in July 2015.

While Heard pleased guilty to a lesser charge of falsifying documents in 2016, a DAWE representative told Newsweek during the couple's recent defamation lawsuit that the department was still looking perjury allegations against the actress.

While the FBI haven't confirmed whether they are helping Australian authorities, a retired agent told the Law & Crime website their involvement wouldn't be unusual.

"The FBI maintains an office in Canberra, and there are FBI agents permanently assigned to Australia [on a rotating basis]," Bobby Chacon told Law & Crime.

"Part of their mission is liaison and assistance, so if the Australians needed something from here in the U.S. they would certainly contact the FBI's Australia office and the FBI would likely assist."
