A few years ago, Lionel Messi suffered from fits of vomiting before taking to the pitch, but it has now been revealed how he managed to turn the corner and move past that difficult stage.

The Barcelona star consulted a specialist, Dr Giuliano Poser, who recommended a dietary change which worked wonders.

Things like alcohol, flour, red meat, fizzy drinks and refined wheats were among the items cut, but luckily for Messi, yerba mate tea is encouraged.

"Vegetables, seasonal fruits and a good mineral water are essential fuels for our muscles," said Poser.

"You have to reduce the intake of processed foods or foods contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, medications."

Poser also encouraged Messi to work on his mental health and suggested using Bach flower remedies.

The Barcelona forward isn't the only star who Poser has advised, as he has also worked with Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala.
