Last week’s episode set the challenge of some raspberry and some salted caramel eclairs during the pastry theme.
But for several years, viewers have been wondering whether the challenges are actually baked by the chef judges.
So who bakes the technical challenge examples? We kneaded through the evidence to find out!

Do Paul and Prue bake the technical examples?
As reported by Huffington Post, The Great British Bake Off judges don’t bake the technical examples shown on Channel 4.
Love Productions confirmed the judges don’t make the cakes, despite setting the technical challenges themselves. However this was reported in 2016, back when Mary Berry was a judge alongside Paul.
They said: “No, Paul and Mary don’t make the cakes. They never have. They are baked on the day and Paul and Mary could never do that.”
However, the judges do form their own technical challenge recipes for bakers and the public, such as Paul Hollywood’s chocolate babka.
Who bakes the GBBO technical examples?
Home economic experts reportedly bake the show’s technical examples for Paul and Prue to taste, claims the Huffington Post.
It is thought that Bake Off bosses hire these people while the judges get their hair and make-up done.
Doing a masters is like the technical challenge on the bake off.

Technical examples on GBBO: Recipes
All of the technical challenges set to bakers can be found on the Great British Bake Off website.
Each recipe is usually posted within a few days of the episode airing. They are usually created by either Paul or Prue.
While Paul’s rainbow bagels can be found on here by the general public, so can Prue’s salted caramel and raspberry eclairs.
And that’s not all, as many of the recipes behind the baker’s showstoppers can be found too!
