George Ranch High Goes In LockDown After Possible Threat From An Active Shooter
Sarah Rodriguez It was reported on Thursday afternoon that three students had been arrested for making fake calls about a threat from an active shooter at one of George Ranch High School campuses.
According to the District, three school students are still under custody. After the call was made, deputies and the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office checked the school.
However, when investigating, they found no evidence which could prove that there was a sign of an active shooter at George Ranch high school.
To the police’s satisfaction, they scanned the entire area but found no sign. Later, they declared the call to be most likely a “false call.”
Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan said, “Swatting calls take away vital county resources from those who truly need emergency assistance.”
He added, “If the FBCSO finds anyone making such calls, we will seek charges.”
The campuses were immediately closed, and the lockdown was initiated after they heard the news about a possible threat from an active shooter in George Ranch, Lamar CSID said.
Lamar added that the neighboring schools were informed about the threat, and security status was implemented on them.
During the security status, the campuses door were locked from the inside and outside, but the inside environment was operating normally. After the investigation was over, the police determined that the call made was a “false call.”
Later, the district said that the call made to the police was a “false call,” and the students who called the police and were informed about the false threat are currently in their custody.
The Fort Bend County District Attorney said, “The investigation is ongoing, and once complete and submitted to us, we will consider all relevant charges at that time. That timeline will depend upon where the investigation takes law enforcement. We did assist law enforcement as needed as it developed.”
After the incident, the district also released a statement in which they discussed the George Ranch active shooter incident.
Let’s find out what did the district write in its statement.
The District Statement About George Ranch Active Shooter Incident
The district starts its statement by saying that the first call from the students about the “possible threat” was received by Fort Bend Police Officials who informed Lamar CSID that they were headed towards the George Ranch High School.
As per the protocol, the school was sent under lockdown. When implemented in the school, a lockdown causes all inside and outside doors to be closed. The inside environment operates normally.
The district further said that police had performed an investigation for 30 minutes, and they were sure that the call was a “false call,” as there were no signs of any presence of an active shooter.
The source of the call was traced, and the district said two out of three students were arrested.
Later, the district thanked by writing, “We are thankful for the swift response and support of the Fort Bend County Sherriff’s Department and our campus and district police officers.”
