Giants Rumors: NYG 'Wouldn't Hesitate to' Draft 'Right QB' Due to Daniel Jones Injury | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Sophia Dalton The New York Giants have Daniel Jones on the roster, but that reportedly might not stop them from adding a quarterback on draft day.
"If the right quarterback is there, the Giants wouldn't hesitate to make the move," ESPN's Jordan Raanan wrote Thursday. "They are aware Daniel Jones has suffered three serious injuries (twice his neck and a torn ACL) in the past three years."
Yet Raanan also noted the Giants may need to trade up from their No. 6 selection to land one of the top signal-callers since the Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos are also candidates to move up and select a quarterback.
With that in mind, ESPN's Matt Miller cited a high-ranking team official who said New York likely will not take a quarterback in the first round but could instead look for a smaller trade in the second round to select someone like Washington's Michael Penix Jr. or Oregon's Bo Nix.
The Giants inked Jones to a four-year deal last offseason, but he played just six games in 2023 and went 1-5 as a starter. It was a far cry from the previous season when he led the NFC East team to a playoff appearance and looked like the quarterback of the future.
Jones has dealt with some inconsistency throughout his career, and there is likely a clear ceiling for New York as long as he is under center. Even in his best season from a won-loss perspective in 2022, he threw for just 15 touchdowns.
There is no shortage of potential impact quarterbacks available in this year's draft with Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, J.J. McCarthy, Drake Maye, Penix and Nix. While many of them may come off the board before the Giants have a chance to pick, there will still be an opportunity to address the position at some point.
And it doesn't seem like Jones will be a roadblock stopping the front office from doing so.
