Govt Announces 2 Eid al-Adha Joint Leave Days; Jokowi Confirms
Sophia Dalton TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo explained the reasons behind the government’s decision to determine two days of Eid al-Adha joint leave on June 28 and 30, 2023. This year’s Islamic Day of Sacrifice falls on June 29.
He said that with longer holidays, people can spend more time on vacation which can drive the economy in regions.
“[It’s expected] to boost the economy, especially in the regions and local tourism areas. Because we assess that [the joint leave days] can be added, then we decided so,” he said in Parungpung Market, Gunung Sindur, West Java, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Based on the Joint Decree of the Religious Affairs Minister, Manpower Minister, and Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister concerning the changes to national holidays and joint leave in 2023, the government determines the Eid al-Adha 1444 Hijri holiday on June 29, 2023. Muhammadiyah, meanwhile, declared the date on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
