Tallnecks are one of the robot creatures that you’ll encounter in Horizon Zero Dawn. They are all over the map. IF you manage to climb on top and override them, they will reveal a large chunk of the map and give you a bunch of experience points. Where to find Tallnecks

Tallnecks can be located all over the map. Unlike most other machine animals, they’re peaceful and won’t attack you. Once you ride near one, Aloy will detect some kind of signal. You’ll then get a side quest to override the Tallneck. Once you do so, the fog over a certain portion of the map will lift. You’ll also get various markers for extra stuff that you can do. So, yeah, it’s kinda like climbing a tower and syncing in Assassin’s Creed.

On the parts of the map that you’ve uncovered already, the Tallneck that are around will show up as icons. You can also see them on your HUD at the top of the screen.

How to climb on a Tallneck

These robots look like giraffes that are the size of a dinosaur. Their heads I can only describe as smaller versions of the starship Enterprise from Star Trek. The override point is on the very top of its flat head. However, it doesn’t seem like you can climb them from the ground.

If you look closely, you can see platform-like protrusions sticking out of the robot’s neck. You have to find some vantage point or high ground from which you can jump onto one of them. From there, as you can see in the video below, it’s a basic platform puzzle. You jump from one neck protrusion to the other until you reach the head.

Once you’re up there, you can spend a few seconds to admire the view, or go directly to the override point. Once your done, enjoy the flashy rappelling animation as you descend from the mechanical beast.
