Hôtel Barrière Le Grand Review, Brittany, France
Emily Baldwin Restaurant George V serves up flavourful and beautifully presented dishes, and very generous portions. Opting for the set menu is great value, with three courses for €43 (£39). Other dishes include free-range poultry supreme with black garlic juice (€27/£24) which is simple but deliciously well-executed, and comes with a small copper pan overflowing with salted, buttery roast potatoes. The classic coquillettes pasta (24€/£22) with ham, Parmesan cheese and and an indulgent touch of truffle might just be the ultimate French comfort food. The region’s traditional Kouign amann cake is served with a decadent amount of salted butter caramel, vanilla cream, and apples (€12/£11).
Follow in the footsteps of Kirk Douglas, who stayed here while shooting The Vikings, and take a seat at the Bar 333 Café. The tipple to try is Le 333 cocktail (€18/£16), concocted by Douglas and the head barman to include all of his favourites: Cointreau, gin, orange juice and a top-up of champagne.
A buffet breakfast is served in the restaurant or in your room. Snag a seat by the window to start your day with a sea view and enjoy all the usual breakfast fare such as pastries, fruit, yogurt, local cheeses and hot dishes.
