Gaspard Ulliel was a famous French actor. Gaspard Ulliel was born in Boulogne-Billancourt (a suburb of Paris) to Christine, a runway show producer, and Serge Ulliel, a stylist. 

Gaspard Ulliel had a scar on his left cheek due to a Doberman attack when he attempted to ride a horse like a dog when he was six years old. He once quipped that the scar overshadowed his emotional acting abilities because it looked like a dimple.

He started his career featured in made-for-television films during the late 1990s and early 2000s and rose to fame as a film actor in France and starring in the title role in the movie Hannibal Rising, his first role English-language film. 

He also starred in Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s A Very Long Engagement and won a César Award for Most Promising Actor for his performance.

He was later featured on the cover of the January issue of French Vogue with supermodel Doutzen Kroes. He later was chosen as the face of Chanel for its new men’s fragrance, Bleu de Chanel. The film for the campaign was directed by Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese and debuted in August 2010. 

He later got featured as French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in the 2014 biopic film Saint Laurent, which earned him a Lumières Award for Best Actor and a César Award for Best Actor nomination.

He was then featured in two films: the lead role in Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World; and in Stephanie Di Giusto’s The Dancer, an unconventional biopic of American dancer Loie Fuller. 

He will also star in Guillaume Nicloux’s Les Confins du Monde, opposite Gérard Depardieu.

He was later nominated for the Jury Prize for Best Actor at the Riviera International Film Festival for his role in Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World alongside co-star Vincent Cassel. The film was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize for Best Picture. He is the current face of Longchamp, a French leather and luxury goods company, along with Kate Moss.

Filmmaker Xavier Dolan paid tribute to late actor Gaspard Ulliel during the 47th Cesar Film Awards ceremony on Saturday, saying “the whole world” still mourns Ulliel’s death at 37.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex paid tribute to the actor best known for his role as young Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal Rising, Yves Saint Laurent in Saint Laurent, and his tenure as the face of Chanel men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel. 

“Gaspard Ulliel grew up with cinema and cinema grew with him. They loved each other madly,” Castex said in a statement published to social media. “It is with a heavy heart that we will no longer see his most beautiful interpretations.” 

Disney, the studio behind Ulliel’s final television performance in Moon Knight, issued a statement reading: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our friend and colleague Gaspard Ulliel. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this time.”
