Robert Garcia, the Ring trainer of the year 2011, recently gave some advice to his former trainee Anthony Joshua regarding his probable next fight with former WBC heavyweight title holder Deontay Wilder.

“One thing that I told them [Team Joshua], and I tell them again now, is that I don’t recommend them to look for a big fight [such as Deontay Wilder] immediately.”

Coming from a back-to-back defeat against Oleksandr Usyk, Garcia considers that it will not be a wise decision for Joshua to fight a big name at the beginning of 2023, as those defeats might have leveled down his confidence. 

As a well-wisher, the former IBF junior lightweight title holder was advised to participate in two or three fights prior to fighting big names so that he might get along with the new trainer and the team.

“Anthony is a massive star in Europe, one of the biggest in history. He should look for two or three fights that are a little more adequate. I don’t want to say easy because there are no easy fights. He needs to regain his confidence.”

The younger brother of Mikey Garcia compared both boxers’ punching power, which he considers to be the same, so he predicts that the fighter who will get the opportunity to hit first will win.

“[Joshua] has the same punching power [Deontay]. It can’t be less strong than Wilder. So, I think that whoever hits first [will win].”

However, The Bronze Bomber most recently faced Robert Helenius, whom he knocked out at the Barclays Center in New York last October, and currently has a professional boxing record of 43 wins and only two losses.

On the other hand, Anthony Joshua lost his last fight to Oleksandr Usyk by a split decision, and after that, this English fighter now holds the record of 24 wins out of his 27 ring appearances.
