Mauricio Rua has been planning for his retirement for awhile now. Although there always has been some talk of retirement from the MMA star but this time it for sure. Shogun didn’t exactly give a reason for his retirement, though he added a possible date in his latest interview.

Mauricio Rua, also known as Shogun, recently stated that he may retire after UFC 285 Although he didn’t exactly give away his reason for doing so, he admitted that his body is too weak to do any fighting right now. The Brazilian MMA star started his career in 2002, and since that time, he has had a lot of achievements. It started with winning the 2005 PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix Championship. In the UFC, he was the former UFC light heavyweight champion for some time.

He recently spoke out about his retirement in an interview, explaining why he does not want to continue playing the sport. “I have been suffering and dealing with some little pains from the injuries I have and those things, it really becomes a burden to be in training camp and live that life. Training camp, fight, training camp, fight. It’s not something I feel like my body holds up anymore and it becomes painful. I’m happy with everything I achieved, so I’m choosing the right time to stop, where I’m still competing, and I’m doing it on my terms.”

The 41-year-old is ready to move on with his life after retiring from the sport. Even though retirement does not mean the end of a fighter’s career, they can always return in different roles within the organization. But as of now, UFC 285 is more likely the last time we will see the Brazilian shogun in the octagon.
