Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter has a net worth of $6 billion. He made his fortune through Marvel Comics, which he acquired in the early 1990s. After serving as Chairman from 1993 to 1995, he sold Marvel to Disney for $4 billion in 2009.
Perlmutter was born in the British Mandate of Palestine in 1942 and emigrated to the US in the late 1960s with only $250. He worked various jobs, including selling toys and beauty products on the streets of NYC. He developed a keen eye for spotting undervalued companies and eventually formed Odd Lot Trading with Bernard Marden, which they sold to Revco Discount Drug Stores for a 12% stake in the company. They later sold the stake for $120 million.
In 1994, Perlmutter and Marden acquired a controlling share of Remington Products, where Perlmutter served as Vice President. Two years later, they sold the company to Vestar Capital Partners. In 1993, Perlmutter was named to the board of directors of Marvel Comics. When the company went bankrupt three years later, he and a partner took control and pushed out corporate raiders Carl Icahn and Ronald Perelman.
