The Arrests made in the Jacob Cooper murder investigation shocked the entire community. 

In a shocking turn of events, three suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the disappearance of a young man from Dilworth. 

Authorities believe they may be involved in second-degree murder.

James Allen Gunderson, 21, hailing from West Fargo, John Jacob Cooper, 25, from Fargo, and Lee Alexander Solarski, 21, of Moorhead, have been accused in Clay County District Court. 

They are accused of allegedly having a role in the tragic killing of 22-year-old David Hinojosa earlier this week.

Timeline & circumstances

According to court records, the unfortunate incident started with the trio picking up Hinojosa in Dilworth. Their apparent intention was to acquire illegal substances.

They later halted at a mobile home in Glyndon, where Hinojosa discovered no one present.

Tensions escalated when Cooper and Gunderson became upset with Hinojosa. 

They were displeased because he did not have the funds, approximately $50 to $60, which they had given him to buy drugs.

Around thirty to forty-five minutes after departing the mobile home, the group found themselves on a gravel road north of Glyndon.

Solarski’s chilling account revealed that he witnessed Gunderson attacking Hinojosa with an axe. Gunderson struck him repeatedly in the head.

In a shocking and gruesome twist, the perpetrators allegedly stripped Hinojosa down to his boxer shorts and placed him into the trunk of Cooper’s black Mercury Cougar.

Search for justice

Law enforcement officials quickly intervened, scrutinizing Cooper’s garage, identified as number 6 at 1618 East Gateway Circle S.

Authorities located substantial traces of blood on the garage floor and additional markings resembling blood within the premises.

However, Hinojosa’s body remained elusive. 

Disturbingly, investigators traced a trail of what appeared to be blood-stained water to the trunk of Cooper’s vehicle.

Seeking the public’s help, Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist has reached out for assistance in locating Hinojosa’s body, which is believed to be hidden within a 150-mile radius of Moorhead.

As a result of his actions, authorities have sentenced Cooper to six years and eight months in prison. 

He also faces an additional two-year extended license following his release.
