Jamaal Williams has experienced a great level of success early. At the age of 27, he is currently playing running back for the Detroit Lions in the National Football League.

Following his time spent playing for Brigham Young University and being selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by The Green Bay Packers. 

Before that, he had played high school football for Skyhawks. His father, Larry Williams, passed away when Jamaal was just 26 years old, but he had a strong support system with his mother, Nicole Williams. 

Nicole is a former teacher who studied economics at UCLA before transitioning to law enforcement, where she now serves as Sherriff for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Jamaal Williams was incredibly fortunate to have been raised in an environment where he had access to mentorship and support from a number of mothers.

Not simply his own mother but a tight-knit ‘nest’ of other women that wrapped him up in love and care.

In recognition of the immense impact these women had in his life when he was at college, he decided to get tattoos of their names running down the length of both his arms.

His mother was determined to impart strong values to her children despite the adversity she faced raising them as single parent. She encouraged them both to aim high and apply themselves. 

As it turns out, Jamaal’s abilities can partially be attributed to her – she too is an accomplished athlete and former UCLA track star. 

Clearly, Jamaal has been shaped by the influential mentors that surrounded him as he grew up; women who evidently invested greatly in his development into the person he is today.

Early Life

Williams was born on April 3, 1995, in Rialto, California, to parents Nicolle and Larry Williams. He and his parents have a great relationship and have always been there for him. His mother frequently comes to the stadium to support him and watch his games.

The Williams family includes younger sisters Jaela and Onika in addition to him. Jaela used to play sports and is now a flight attendant. After graduating high school, Meet Larry and Nicole Jamaal Williams enrolled in BYU in Provo, Utah.

Williams studied at Fontana, California’s Summit High School. He participated in high school football there with the Skyhawks. He chose Brigham Young University (BYU) over Boise State as his collegiate football destination despite being a 3-star recruit.
