WWE legend John Cena says he regrets calling Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson a sellout for trading in the world of wrestling for Hollywood.

"It was stupid of me," said Cena. "It really was. That was my perspective at the time.

"For me to not be able to see Dwayne's vision on what he wanted to do personally, and how his personal success could affect a growing global brand, that was just ignorant on my part."

Cena has followed in The Rock's footsteps

In recent years, the 45-year-old has transitioned from wrestling to movies, starring in films like Trainwreck, Blockers and Daddy's Home, as well as the Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee.

In 2021 he even followed in The Rock's footsteps by starring in F9, the latest instalment in the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Cena thanks Johnson for opening doors

"I'm very grateful to Dwayne Johnson," said Cena. "His success has given me many opportunities that I'm extremely grateful for, and I certainly wouldn't have had them without him."

What about their WrestleMania rivalry?

Cena and Johnson squared off in back-to-back WrestleMania main events in 2012 and 2013.

In 2020, Cena admitted that things got "pretty personal" between the two during the rivalry.

"I said some things that were less than nice, he said some things that were less than nice," said Cena.

"I can assure you, in our line of work there is a grey area where imagination becomes very real. We were right in the sweet spot of that grey area, each watching the other's every move and not too happy with the other party."
