Kentucky lands 4-star QB Cutter Boley: How this impacts Wildcats
James Holden Cutter Boley committed to Kentucky on Thursday at his high school, Lexington Christian Academy (Ky.). Here’s what you need to know:
- Boley is the No. 6 quarterback in the 2025 class and the top-ranked prospect from the state of Kentucky, per the 247Sports Composite.
- The 6-foot-5, 203-pound quarterback chose Kentucky over Florida State, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee.
- Boley is originally a member of the Class of 2025. He has enough academic credits to be considered a high school junior and is reclassifying as a member of the Class of 2024. Boley confirmed to The Athletic on Thursday that he will enroll at Kentucky early in January.
What it means for Kentucky
The Wildcats just picked up one of the most desirable quarterbacks in the transfer portal in NC State’s Devin Leary, but that move was only going to be a quick fix. He’s entering Year 6 in 2023, which will be his final season of eligibility. The Wildcats need their quarterback of the future.

In landing Boley, Mark Stoops and his staff just made a major splash on the recruiting trail, and they did it with a hometown prospect. Boley, who attends nearby Lexington Christian, had offers from several of the nation’s top programs. He announced a top-10 list last week that included Penn State, Kentucky, Alabama, Michigan, Oregon, Notre Dame, Miami, Tennessee, Florida State and TCU. He then trimmed his list to a top five this week — Kentucky, Florida State, Penn State, Michigan and Tennessee — before picking the Wildcats on Thursday morning in a ceremony at his high school.
Recruiting rankings can be fickle and we’ve seen highly-ranked quarterbacks struggle before, but it’s worth noting that Boley is the program’s highest-ranked quarterback recruit in the modern recruiting era, per data from 247Sports. Multiple outlets have also reported that he is reclassifying from the Class of 2025 to the Class of 2024, a move that would get him on campus almost immediately after Leary leaves. — Raynor
