Canadian lady Madison Scott vanished on May 28, 2011, after leaving a party at Hogsback Lake, located 25 km southeast of Vanderhoof in British Columbia.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced on May 29, 2023, that the remains of Madison Scott had been confirmed after they were discovered earlier that month on a remote farm on the east side of Vanderhoof.

Who was Madison Scott?

On April 29, 1991, Eldon and Dawn Scott welcomed their third child into the world: a daughter named Madison. 

She joined brothers Ben and Georgia. She had several passions in life, including motocross, figure skating, equestrian sports, team sports, and socializing with her friends. 

Scott’s father was a heavy-duty mechanic in the forestry industry. where Scott served as an apprentice. 

Her brother said she could look just as good in a dress as in work coveralls.

Scott has lived in Vanderhoof for the majority of her life, and it was there that she completed her secondary schooling at Nechako Valley in 2009.

Scott was reportedly 5 feet 4 inches (163 cm) tall, weighing 160-180 pounds (73-82 kg), with green eyes and natural ginger hair when she went missing when she was 20 years old and Caucasian. 

She’d pierced her ears and nose multiple times. A bird was tattooed on the inside of Scott’s left wrist.

Scott was known to do things on the fly and had a lively, fun-loving, playful, gregarious nature. She was described as kind and loving, with a generous person. 

Scott loved sharing her talent with her pals through homemade music videos. Scott met the academic requirements of her school, but she mostly focused on extracurricular activities.

What happened to Madison Scott?

Scott and her friend Jordi Bolduc drove to Hogsback Lake in a white 1990 Ford F-150 pickup truck on May 27, 2011, for a party, but by nightfall, Scott had gone to her tent and sleeping bag. Scott communicated with her dad by text message 

After midnight, a fight broke out, and an injured Bolduc left with her new boyfriend. Bolduc claims that she invited Scott, but he declined. 

At around 8:30 a.m. the following morning, Bolduc and her boyfriend returned to the campsite to retrieve Bolduc’s belongings. 

Scott’s tent was unzipped, and Bolduc spotted her sleeping bags and belongings off to the side. She claimed she had no contact with Scott and did not mention his absence.

On the evening of May 28, 2011, a second party took place at the house where Scott was last seen.

Scott’s tent was destroyed by an unknown individual, who was later recognized and questioned by the RCMP. but no information about the suspect’s possible motivations was released to the public.

RCMP reported that they found no evidence of a struggle. Only the clothes she wore, an iPhone 4 in a light blue case, and a large bunch of keys, including the Ford key on a Gothic-themed lanyard, are gone from her possessions.

Divers, cadaver dogs, boats, cars, and trucks have all combed the region, including people on foot, ATVs, horses, a forward-looking infrared camera-equipped helicopter, and several other vehicles. 

Dawn Scott claims that the first several days after the disappearance saw an intensive search effort, with teams strolling in long lines hand in hand, checking in at 10 p.m., cadaver dogs looking, and dive teams scouring the lake.

Since the ground was cold in the early hours, forward-looking infrared was used in the helicopter search. 

The search area encompassed roughly 2788.16 km2 (50 km x 71 km ellipse), stretching from east to west between Isle Pierre and Fraser Lake and from north to south towards Fort St. 

James and southwest of Sinkut Mountain (Finger Lake/Paddock Lake). Side-scanning sonar was used as part of the boat search.

Madison Scott’s loved ones and friends posted placards and made media announcements regarding her abduction.

A cash reward of $100,000 was offered to anyone who provided information that led to the capture of the perpetrators.

Scott’s loved ones host a poker ride every year to remember and honor him.

RCMP Conclusion on the Case of Madison Scott

Nothing, such as a flat tire, was found at the campsite that would have prompted Scott to leave on her own, as was investigated by the RCMP.

Vanderhoof Search and Rescue’s Rick Beatty reported that many people helping the search concluded that Scott must have fled via automobile because they found no evidence to suggest that she left on foot.

The RCMP is investigating the disappearance of Madison Scott, and they suspect foul play. Jordi Bolduc said that she noticed some new faces at the party after a while.

Police claimed to have spoken with everyone at the party on May 27 and to have found no evidence linking any partygoers to Scott’s disappearance or to anyone who would have had the motive to cause her harm. 

According to the police, those asked to take polygraph tests did so willingly. 

While Scott’s case does not meet the criteria for inclusion in the Highway of Tears database, some have speculated that it is connected to the abduction and possible murder of indigenous women in the Highway 16 corridor.

The possible involvement of a drug addict and single father of one, Fribjon Bjornson, 28. Bolduc mentioned Scott and Bjornson’s social interaction in an interview with 48 Hours. 

The police looked into Bjornson’s possible involvement with Scott’s disappearance. but they and Scott’s family do not see any significant connections between the two incidents. In 2012, Bjornson was gunned down in Nak’azdli.

New update about the case of Madison Scott

In May 2023, Madison Scott’s remains were found on a remote farm near Hogsback Lake, and identification was made. 

A vigil was conducted on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Nechako Valley Secondary School.
