To get a Ball of Yarn, you’re first going to need some Yarn. And for that, you’re going to need Silk, which is dropped by a Moth. These Moths are available on every empty field that is adjacent to a Post Light (IV). One Moth (VI) will give you x60 Silk before it is used up and vanishes.
