Michael Gillespie's Men's Tennis Recruiting Profile
Daniel Santos Personal Statement
I am a senior at the Unified School District #1 in De Pere, Wisconsin. I currently have a B average in college bound classes with intentions of majoring in business and/or finance while in college. My long range plans are to be a personal financial advisor in the banking industry. My favorite classes are marketing, advanced composition, and creative writing.
I have participated in athletics since a young boy included soccer, baseball, Pop Warner football, tennis, AAU, and high school basketball. I have competed in USTA tennis tournaments since age 11 and currently rank # 43 in the boy's 18's. My highest state raking was #20. As a freshman, I was one of 3 freshman boys to qualify and compete in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state high school tennis tournament and have qualified in singles every year since. My goals this year are to again qualify for the state tournament and to become the all time leader for career wins at De Pere.
Given the opportunity, I would like to play tennis for organized D-I coaches who have coached at the college level for several years. I would like to play on a team with highly motivated individuals and one having a strong year round schedule so I can continue to improve as a player.
My tennis strengths are my quickness, my forehand and my baseline consistency. I have been taught and have developed an all court style of tennis. I am working on improving my serve and developing a collegiate style of play based on my strengths. Because I played varsity doubles my entire freshman year and # 1 singles since, I am comfortable playing both. I currently play tennis 12 months a year and take 2 private lessons and 1 drill each week with 2 highly regarded and recognized USPTA professionals, Mark Thomas and Scott Anderson.
I have been told that I am a mature individual and have never had any athletic or traffic codes issues. I have played the guitar for 3 years and have written some of my own songs and music. My plan is to continue my music as a way of earning additional income while in college and beyond.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
