On June 15, 2023, Michael John Carroll passed away at 87. In 2022, he faced significant health issues, which he bravely overcame. 

Before he died, Mike lived in Shirley, New York, for 50 years and was known as a member of a team at the Brookhaven National Laboratory engaged in particle studies.  

He also designed and tested electrical equipment used in physics investigation, which piqued his attention. Gravitational radiation also had a deep attraction on Michael. 

After Mike Carroll retired from the laboratory, he worked for a Swedish technology company called Ericson. 

Despite this, Michael love adventures throughout his life. He enjoyed deep-sea diving and even worked as the primary diver on a ship that searched for hidden treasures. 

He loved creating and utilizing hang gliders, as well as flying airplanes. Mike developed a passion for motorcycles during his career and proudly took part in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade as a bagpiper.

In 1975, he began his employment with the Brookhaven Fire Department.

He left the military in his mid-sixties but remained employed as a fire policeman for ten years.

Mike’s assistance in founding the Shirley Community Ambulance service and completing advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT) training. 

Michael dedicated most of his time to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Jude Church and regularly attended daily mass at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church.
