“Mindreader” by A Day to Remember

Although it is never forthrightly specified, the way the narrative of “Mindreader” plays out is as if the singer is addressing a romantic interest. And basically he is lamenting over an issue that has perhaps plagued such relationships since time immemorial. That is he appears to be in a situation where he must figure out, based only on clues, what his lady is thinking without such thoughts actually being expressed. Indeed we see that the vocalist is very stressed out concerning this scenario. In fact he contemplates seeking out “ancient” wisdom to help him better understand the matter.

And this frustration is due to communication issues he perceives in his relationship. And in the process of venting out, he apparently acknowledges that openly expressing one’s self is not an “easy” thing to do. But at the same time, he wants his lady to know that he is not an actual “mindreader” who automatically knows what she is thinking.
